How Can Platelet-Rich Plasma Help With Hair Growth?

How Can Platelet-Rich Plasma Help With Hair Growth?

Losing hair is a natural, daily process. As you lose hair, new ones grow in to fill any areas of loss. Due to some conditions, however, new hair may not grow back in its place.

If hair loss is impacting your life, you can find a solution with platelet-rich plasma.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Hair loss, medically termed as alopecia, is a normal part of aging. This can be caused by genetics, underlying medical conditions, or changes in hormones – as is common in pregnancy.

Hair loss can affect both men and women, though it is seen more typically in men.

This condition can present in a few different ways:

  • Hair can become thinner, more easily showing lines of recession
  • You may notice that your hair is much easier to fall out, as seen when washing your hair or brushing it
  • Hair can fall out in patches, leaving bald spots
  • In some conditions, you may notice full hair loss and balding

You can prevent hair loss by being gentle when brushing and styling your hair to avoid pulling. Avoid hot tools and long periods of sun exposure, as well.

Medications and supplements are also available to help promote stronger, healthier hair.

If you are taking prescription medicines, consult with your personal physician to see if your medication is promoting hair loss.

If you are dealing with the aftermath of hair loss, you may be wondering what your options are. This is where platelet-rich plasma comes to the rescue.

How Can PRP Help Stimulate Growth?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a serum of concentrated platelets gathered from your own blood. These platelets are gathered by separating red blood cells from white blood cells and plasma via centrifuge.

These cells are amazingly potent and used in a variety of regenerative healing treatments, from healing scars and reducing the signs of aging to injecting into the body to help speed up natural recovery.

The proteins in platelet-rich plasma are also effective for promoting tissue growth and repair.

When injected into the scalp in the area of hair loss, PRP can stimulate hair growth.

Results vary from patient to patient, but clinical studies are showing a positive rate of new growth in patients with hair loss.

One study has shown that out of a trial on 389 patients, the majority experienced success in regrowth for androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata thanks to injections of PRP.

Following your procedure, you may experience pain, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site. In some circumstances, this may be accompanied by itching, light bleeding, and even headaches. This should be short-lived and resolve within a few weeks.

PRP injections are not a cure for hair loss and may require repeat treatments every 3-6 months for upkeep.

For those looking to reverse the effects of hair growth, PRP injections provide you a natural solution that harnesses the body’s own healing and regenerative properties!

Talk with your injection specialist today to learn more about this innovative process.

Plumping Your Pout With Lip Fillers

Plumping Your Pout With Lip Fillers

Lip fillers allow you to bring more focus to your lips. In addition to adding more fullness, lip fillers can be a simple way to even out asymmetry and reduce fine lines around the mouth.

Are you thinking about whether or not injections are right for you? Here’s what you need to know to be ready for your injection!

What Do Lip Fillers Do?

Lip fillers are typically made of hyaluronic acid, a water-loving substance that augments the shape and size of the lips for a soft, supple, plump look.

Different fillers can achieve different results. This is something your injector can help you decide on depending on what you want out of your injections.

For instance, Juvéderm can deliver a noticeable, voluminous appearance to the lips whereas Restylane injections may be more subtle.

This is all up to your personal preference!

There isn’t a long recovery period post-injection, either. Avoid pain medications that can thin the blood, and avoid straining the injection site – so don’t schedule any dental work for the week following your injection.

You may notice some bruising and swelling, but this should subside within a few days.

Do note that filler doesn’t last forever. While they do fade over time, your results can remain visible anywhere from six to twelve months.

Here's How To Prep

First, know what you want your end result to be. If you want a noticeable difference in the volume of your lips, let your specialist know! Your specialist, like Sarah Balladares, can help you to determine the perfect amount of filler to complement your facial features and give you the results you want.

Know the importance of not overfilling your lips. The old adage is the same in the world of lip fillers – it’s easier to add than to take away.

Avoid taking Aspirin or Aleve for at least a week before your appointment. These medicines can thin your blood and make bruises more prominent following your injection.

Injections are Sarah’s specialty. Whether you are looking to plump your lips, enhance out your facial features, or restore volume to hollow areas of the face, we can help you determine the perfect filler for your needs.

The Fastest Signs of Aging

The Fastest Signs of Aging

When it comes to beauty and aesthetic wellness, slowing down the signs of aging is always one of our first concerns. Aging becomes visible in many areas and many forms, from wrinkles and under-eye circles to veins and sunspots on our hands.

Visible signs of aging are natural and inevitable – but staying aware of the first depictions of aging can help you to prepare your prevention plan!

These Are the Signs of Aging

It is natural for skin imperfections to appear as we age. This is greatly affected by our diet, our environment, or our natural genetics. However, there are a few factors that signal our aging more noticeably.

These are a few of the most common areas that allow visualization of facial aging:

  • Sagging Skin
Sagging skin is not always caused by weight gain and loss – as we age, our skin naturally loses collagen and elastin, thus resulting in lower elasticity.

Skin will become heavier and sag in areas of natural volume loss under the skin. Loss of collagen also allows skin to become less healthy and to sag.
  • Dull Complexion
Without exfoliation to promote resurfacing and cell turnover, dead skin cells can build up on the surface of your skin.

As they accumulate, you may notice that your complexion becomes more lackluster.

The stem cells normally present in skin become less effective for replacing damaged skin too; this is a normal aging process.

There are ways to improve the quality and quantity of these skin-based stem cells.
  • Facial Dryness
As we age, it becomes more difficult for our skin to retain moisture.

Sun exposure and cell damage can further exacerbate dryness, as well.

The skin has natural barrier protection built-in, but aging diminishes this. There are ways to improve your ability to lock in moisture and maintain youthful skin turgor.
  • Sun Spots
These surface-level imperfections are also called “Liver Spots.” They develop due to compounded sun exposure. You may notice these develop on your face, neck, chest, and hands by 40 years old, or earlier if your skin tone is fair.

These are basically signs of radiation damage to the skin, and this is truly oxidative stress. There are ways to prevent this and to reduce the damage that is currently present.
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Lines and wrinkles can be caused by a combination of facial dryness, loss of elasticity, sun damage, overactive facial muscles and environmental exposure.

Crow’s feet around the eyes and smile lines are some of the first to develop. Glabellar (forehead) lines are the most obvious sign of aging.

These wrinkles are treatable, and it is very possible to enhance your youthfulness and eliminate wrinkles.

How Can I Prevent Skin Aging?

Again, aging is a normal part of life, but there are plenty of practices you can put in place to help postpone the signs of that aging as much as possible.

Here are some of the best practices for preventing signs of aging and skin imperfection:

  • Wear sunscreen!
  • Use a gentle facial cleanser.
  • Apply Moisturizer.
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles with Botox.
  • Plump hollow or sagging skin with dermal fillers.
  • Utilize biological improvement treatments like PRP or stem cells
  • Institute a comprehensive program of antioxidants and inflammation reduction

Unfortunately, we don’t always put the legwork in to take care of our skin before imperfections form, but don’t fear – Smooth By Sarah is here to help give your skin the TLC it needs.

The Topical Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma

The Topical Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma

Treating your skin with platelet-rich plasma is an advanced method of facial rejuvenation. This utilizes your body’s built-in methods of healing to promote healthier, more youthful-looking skin!

Let’s look at this treatment in more detail.

What Is PRP, & What Are Its Benefits

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is gathered from your own blood. Your blood is drawn and processed in a centrifuge where it is spun at very high speeds. This processing separates the white blood cell and plasma layers from the red blood cells.

The useful portion for skin health is the portion with concentrated platelets. Platelets are the basic cell of healing.

These cells are nutrient-rich and packed with natural healing properties that have amazing benefits when applied topically or injected into the body!

Platelet-rich-plasma has a long and safe history of use in orthopedic surgery and is now available to you for skin health and rejuvenation.

PRP-facials, also called ‘Vampire Facials’, are a simple way to promote skin rejuvenation through regenerative healing.

This process involves microneedling the surface of the skin to promote faster, optimal absorption. This is a specific procedure that is highly effective in stimulating collagen growth.

Sarah and her team will then apply a layer of your platelets to the area you wish to see results. Dr. Meredith Warner or Warner Orthopedics & Wellness prepares the platelet formulation that is best suited for this purpose.

The PRP enters the skin and collagen by way of the millions of micropores created during the microneedling procedure. Sarah makes the entire procedure painless and comfortable, as well.

When applied topically, you may notice these benefits from PRP usage:

  • Smoother skin with fewer wrinkles
  • A boost in collagen production
  • Firmer, brighter, more hydrated skin
  • Healthier skin with less inflammation

If you are looking to reduce the appearance of aging, hyperpigmentation, scarring, or uneven tone, PRP treatments may be the right choice for you!

The Aesthetic Benefits of PRP Injections

In addition to facial services, PRP can be used in a variety of other procedures for aesthetic wellness. Here are a few uses for PRP that you may not have known:

  • PRP can promote faster wound healing.
  • Injections can be used in breast augmentation treatments to increase size or enhance shape, tighten loose skin, or heighten sensitivity.
  • PRP injections in the scalp have been shown to stimulate hair growth.
  • These injections have also been used to help control urinary incontinence in women by regenerating healthy tissue.
  • Direct injections of PRP into problem areas of the face can increase volume and enhance fillers.

These are just a few uses of platelet-rich plasma, but this adequately illustrates the wide variety of applications and the great healing powers present within these cells.

Facial Rejuvenation With Well Theory's Custom PRP Cream

Smooth By Sarah has partnered with Warner Orthopedics to offer you the benefits of platelet-rich plasma for aesthetic wellness!

Following a PRP facial, we can use the extra platelets gathered from your appointment to create a custom facial cream to help promote healing and racial rejuvenation even after your appointment is over.

This is a patent-pending formulation that harnesses natural phytochemicals with your powerful platelets to provide an ongoing treatment regimen for your facial rejuvenation.

In a sterile, in-office setting, we will collect platelet-rich plasma from your blood.

We then mix these platelets into a luxurious, soothing PRP Collagen Complex (patent-pending) from Well Theory, formulated by Dr. Meredith Warner of Warner Orthopedics & Wellness.

Take this cream home and apply it daily, or as needed, to promote skin healing and collagen production!

How Much Botox Do You Need?

How Much Botox Do You Need?

For many patients considering Botox injections, the first question asked is often ‘how many units do I need?’. This can be essential in gauging the price of their procedure.  After all, Botox is traditionally priced per unit used.

Today, we’ll help you understand how the professionals measure Botox and help you know how much you may need.

Let's Look At Measurements

The best place to start is understanding the units of measurement for Botox injections.

Botox is available in “units” that are based on the strength needed to block neurotransmitters responsible for muscle contraction.

The amount of Botox you need is determined by the strength needed to relax the muscles in the area of injection.

One vial of cosmetic Botox contains 100 units. These units can be split up to treat different facial areas during your appointment.

Determine Your Injection Area

The next step is to look at what goals you are wanting to reach by getting Botox injections. Here are several questions you may be asking yourself:

  • Are you dealing with muscle pain and spasms?
  • Are you wanting to relieve pain from migraines?
  • Do you want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles?
  • Where are the wrinkles that bother you?
  • Have you ever had Botox before?
  • How deep are the wrinkles?

As you can imagine, your professional must take a lot of factors into consideration when making a treatment plan. Your goals are the first concern for Sarah.

If you are interested in how Botox can relieve migraine symptoms, you can read more in this blog.

Botox has many medicinal uses, and this is just one of them.

Once you have settled on the purpose and area you want to target with your injections, Sarah and her team can help you determine exactly how many units you will need.

Here are some traditional amounts for common injection areas:

  • Forehead: 10 to 30 units
  • Bunny Lines (or the lines around your nose): 5 to 10 units
  • Crow’s Feet: 5 to 15 units per side
  • Neck: 25 to 50 units
  • Cheek Contour (also used for TMJ Relief): 15 to 50 units per side

These are just a few of the many possible injection areas.

If you know that you want to achieve a younger, smoother look but are unsure of what area you should target, Sarah can help you to determine the perfect placement of your injections.

Sarah has a deep understanding of the physiology of this powerful tool and is an artist at the same time. She will be able to understand your personal goal and how to effectively achieve it.

Can Botox Help With Migraines?

Can Botox Help With Migraines?

You have most likely already heard of Botox and its use for wrinkle reduction and anti-aging purposes – but did you know that Botox can also help to relieve migraines?

Here’s how it works.

Let's Refresh Our Knowledge On Botox

Botox is a neurotoxin, which sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. This botulinum toxin is produced from a bacteria that causes botulism, but don’t worry – it is purified to create the injection.

Botox injections are used to freeze muscle contractures. For the purposes of wrinkle reduction, Botox is most commonly injected into the muscles around the eyes and in the forehead.

When injected, Botox blocks the release of the chemical acetylcholine, or a chemical messenger between the body between the brain and your muscles. Blocking this chemical, in essence, paralyzes movement and muscle spasms.

Without this muscle movement, the skin above the muscle does not move, pinch, or develop wrinkles.

This is the process of utilizing Botox for facial rejuvenation, but these injections can be useful for treating migraines, too!

How Do These Treatments Work?

The traditional throbbing pain of migraines are can result from many different catalysts; migraines are from hormone changes, diet, stress, sleep issues, and more.

Botox, as we discussed earlier, blocks neurotransmitters in the brain to freeze movement. When fighting migraines, this can be a fantastic tool.

Injections are spaced across the scalp, focusing on either side and where your headaches typically begin.

Injecting Botox into the scalp and neck has two functions:

  • Paralyzing movement of muscle spasms in the neck
  • And blocking pain signals in the scalp.

This procedure won’t take very long at all to perform – only about 20 minutes! Your injector will inject up to 40 shots of Botox equally spaced on either side of your head, focusing on areas that primarily give you headache attacks.

Following your appointment, you may feel some soreness at the injection site. Alternate with hot and cold packs to help soothe away the sensitivity, and consult with your injector for instructions for proper care.

Things To Keep In Mind After Your Appointment

Things To Keep In Mind After Your Appointment

Following through with dermal fillers or Botox is a big decision and an exciting one, too! Whether you are looking to improve the structure of your face, erase the signs of aging, or highlight a favorite feature, fillers and Botox can help you to boost your beauty and confidence with ease.

While the procedures are simple and don’t require much in the way of downtime or upkeep, it is still essential to know the best practices to follow after leaving your appointment.

Today, we’re giving you pointers for what to do after getting your injection of choice.

Here Are Your Do's & Dont's

Rest assured that your injector will send you off with detailed aftercare instructions, but here is what you can expect following your appointment:

  • Do not exercise or strain the injection area for at least a few hours after leaving your appointment.

  • It is best to remain in a sitting or upright position for at least three hours following your injection.

  • Avoid sun exposure until irritation from your injection has subsided.

  • Refrain from scheduling dental appointments or facials for one to two weeks following a lip filler procedure.

  • Do not smoke or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours, though we recommend abstaining from cigarettes altogether.

  • Abstain from using harsh physical or chemical exfoliants on the face for at least a full day following your filler or injection.
  • If you notice swelling, sensitivity, or bruising at the injection site, this isn’t a reason for concern. Reduce this with a cool compress and Tylenol.

Antihistamines may also help with swelling. Arnica gel is a natural topical that helps with bruising too.

Avoid aspirin or NSAIDs like Ibuprofen for up to a week following your appointment as these can increase the possibility of bruising.

Pay attention to your body for any signs of possible issues:

  • Discoloration of areas other than the injection site
  • A red, hot injection area
  • Intense pain at or around the injection area
  • Spiking fever or body chills

If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your specialist immediately.

As a general rule of thumb for wellness, make sure to drink plenty of water before and after your appointment to stay well hydrated. However, we also have the ability to provide healthy IV infusions at the same time you receive your injection treatments.

Shortly after your injection experience, avoid sleeping on your face or massaging the injection area to give your injection sites time to heal.

Wait for one to two weeks for full recovery and settling of your fillers or Botox injection to determine if you are satisfied with your results.

If you are not content with the final result, contact your specialist to follow up about your next steps!

Sarah and her team are passionate about producing the best outcomes possible.

As part of this process, Sarah or one of her team members will likely contact you to provide ‘after’ photos and to discuss your experience. We want total satisfaction!

Discount Fillers? Here’s Why You Should Always Do Your Research.

Discount Fillers? Here's Why You Should Always Do Your Research.

Fillers are wonderful tools for helping you refresh your facial features. From replenishing volume loss and facial contouring to rewinding the signs of aging, dermal fillers are a great way to give you added confidence in the presence that you put out into the world.

As professionals in the industry, we understand that dermal fillers are not an inexpensive purchase – and if you are a thrifty individual, you may scour the internet seeking coupons and discounts to cut costs.

Today, we want to tell you why it is crucial to do your research beforehand.

The Risks of Cheap Injections

There are many, many reasons why a cheap injection is a bad injection, but here are three that should immediately change your outlook.

1. Inexpensive specialists may offer low-quality service.

If the product you are receiving is cheap, your service likely will be as well. This can range in severity from the practices of your physician to the cleanliness of the setting you are receiving your filler in.

Your injector should be a qualified specialist. They will be knowledgeable about the product and where it comes from. Their bedside manner should be kind and welcoming, and the procedure setting should be sterile and trustworthy.

Unfortunately, this is often not the case when seeking inexpensive treatment. There are plenty of horror stories online, from “specialists” who have split injections between two separate appointments (causing needle contamination) to injecting too much or too little and botching results.

When you pay the higher costs for your injection, you are also paying for quality service. Don’t cut costs for risky service.

2. Cheap fillers can be fake fillers.

One of the reasons that companies can offer inexpensive fillers is because of the ingredients within the syringe.

This could be imitation injections without FDA approval, diluted filler, or expired product. In some cases, there may be no botulinum toxin in the injection at all.

You can always ask your provider to show you the product before unpackaging it. This ensures that your injection is safe, sealed, and untampered with.

Checking your injection beforehand can guarantee a sterile procedure, but if your source is not trustworthy, you have no way of knowing exactly what is being injected.

3. Your injections may be imported.

Another way that companies can cut the cost of your injection is to import the filler from other countries. The problem with this method of discounting costs is that the product you are injected into your skin does not follow United States FDA requirements.

These products are often mass-produced and under-regulated, and there is often no way to certify the license or medical grade of the filler.

Now, imagine putting that into your lips or undereye area. Just don’t do it.

If you want to avoid infection or the possibility of having to undo the damage of a counterfeit injection, budget for the real deal!

The Bottom Line

Cheap fillers are not always trustworthy. They may be tempting, but saving money on a faulty injection won’t save you money on fixing a problem with your filler later on.

If you are looking to save on fillers, start by finding a clinic or specialist that you can trust. Read reviews and talk to the doctors. If the establishment is trustworthy, you know that you will find great service and guaranteed results.

In some circumstances, these establishments will offer discounts or packages that either helps you to save on your services or get more bang for your buck. This is fine! Just make sure to do the legwork beforehand to ensure that the setting, specialist, and products being used are safe and satisfactory.

New Year’s Eve Recovery With IV Infusions

New Year's Eve Recovery With IV Infusions

Celebrating is a good thing! Whether it’s New Year’s Eve, an engagement, or a night in with good friends and good conversation, we need to embrace every ounce of excitement and community, especially during this time of social distancing.

These festivities, however, can sometimes knock us off our feet the next day.

You may wake up feeling dehydrated and fatigued, and this may come hand-in-hand with a splitting headache. What’s worse is that these symptoms can last up to 24 hours.

If you’ve gone through this before, you’ve probably treated this the way many do: drinking as much water as your stomach allows, staying in bed, and sleeping off your hangover.

We’re here to give you another option for fast, effective relief: IV Infusion Therapy.

What Are Botox Injections?

Intravenous (V) Infusion Treatments are exactly what they sound like! This therapy offers infusions of vitamins and minerals that are delivered straight into your system via IV injection.

Your IV Infusion specialist can offer a variety of different infusions for your various needs. These are just a few goals that can be met with IV Infusion:

  • Weight Loss
  • Hangover Relief
  • Immunity Defense
  • Skin Rejuvenation

Thanks to this special therapy, your specialist can provide your body with fast-absorbing, high vitamin doses to help you feel better, faster.

How Will This Help With My Hangover?

If you find yourself feeling less than spectacular after a night of drinking or celebrating, IV Infusion Therapy can help you to get back on your feet in less time than huddling up at home.

These infusions typically contain vitamins and minerals that lessen the day after-effects of a late, exciting night. This may include a Vitamin B complex, vitamin C, magnesium, and much-needed electrolytes for hydration.

Pro Tip: Get your IV Infusion treatment before or after your night out (or in).

Dosing your system in advance can help to lessen your morning-after symptoms or prevent them altogether! You’ll notice that you’ll feel less nauseous, less dizzy, and better equipped for your day ahead.

Put Your Best Face Forward In 2021

Put Your Best Face Forward In 2021

After a hectic year, the impending New Year may come as a light at the end of the tunnel. As we enter into 2021, we hope that you are putting resolutions into place to make this new chapter brighter, happier, and healthier! Whether you are choosing resolutions for dieting, traveling (within reason), or picking up new hobbies, don’t forget to keep your skincare in mind.

Skincare Resolutions To Carry You Into The New Year

Skincare doesn’t have to solely be the products you put on, but it can also be what you put into your body. Here are five ways that you can put your best face forward in the new year.

1. Don’t overcomplicate your skincare.

There are many, many products on the market that are geared towards healthier skin – but your routine doesn’t have to be a 10 step process! Invest in a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of necessary moisture, and follow up with a moisturizer and serums to help meet your individual needs.

Talk with your aesthetic professional, wellness expert, or dermatologist to find the best products for you, from acne-fighting products to fine line-diminishing retinol!

2. Wash. Off. Your. Makeup.

Life gets busy. We get it. But that doesn’t mean that you should neglect your skin in the process! Make cleansing your skin a part of your daily routine. Get rid of dirt, makeup, and oil that may contribute to acne breakouts and clogged pores. Don’t forget to finish off with toners and hydrating skincare to seal in the goodness.

3. Don’t neglect your neck and chest.

When we think of skincare, it is easy to place your focus on your face – but your neck and chest also deserve the same care! Make sure to bring your moisturizers, sunblock, and serums down your neck and chest to keep them happy, hydrated, and protected from damage or signs of aging.

4. Treat your skin here & there!

There is nothing wrong with giving your skin some extra special treatment from time to time.

Choose one day each week to use a mask at home while you relax, or schedule a facial at a local spa. This will give you a day of relaxation and pampering while also benefiting the health of your skin.

5. Wear sunscreen daily.

We mention this regularly, but we’re going to mention this again. Sunscreen is incredibly important when it comes to protecting your skin from the oxidative stress of sun damage!

Even on cloudy days, sunscreen can help protect your skin from UV rays that can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, or skin cancer. Put a layer of protectant on your skin on its own or under makeup and go on with your day!
